In today’s highly competitive job markets, your resume is your first impression — and sometimes your only chance — to show an employer why you're the right fit. At CSI Placement, our recruitment experts review thousands of resumes each month. Based on our hands-on hiring experience, here are our top tips to help you write a resume that stands out and gets noticed.
📝 1. Keep It Simple and ProfessionalAvoid fancy fonts, bright colors, or overly creative layouts unless you're applying for a design role. Stick to clean formatting, consistent spacing, and easy-to-read sections. Recruiters typically spend just 6–10 seconds reviewing a resume — make those seconds count.
📌 2. Customize for Each JobGeneric resumes often get overlooked. Tailor your resume to match the job description. Use keywords from the job posting and focus on the skills and experiences that directly relate to the position you’re applying for.
🧠 3. Highlight Skills That MatterFocus on both technical skills (like MS Excel, programming, or equipment handling) and soft skills (like communication, teamwork, or leadership). Include skills that are in demand in your industry.
📅 4. List Experience StrategicallyAlways start with your most recent job or project. Include your job title, company name, location, and employment dates. Under each role, add 3–5 bullet points showing what you achieved using action words like:
Mention your highest qualification along with relevant certifications, online courses, or licenses. For freshers, this section is especially important and can show your dedication to learning.
📍 6. Add a Summary StatementInclude a 2–3 line professional summary at the top of your resume. It should briefly describe who you are, your key strengths, and what kind of opportunity you’re seeking.
Quantify your results wherever possible. Numbers help recruiters understand your impact.
Instead of: “Handled social media accounts.”
Write: “Increased Instagram followers by 40% in 3 months.”
Your resume should be 1 page (for freshers) or 1–2 pages (for experienced professionals). Make sure every word adds value.
🖨️ 10. Save and Send in PDFAlways save your resume as a PDF to preserve formatting. When sending by email, use a professional file name like:
Rahul_Sharma_Resume.pdf
